Ban Xang Khong is a short craft detour rather than a major excursion: just outside Luang Prabang, small workshops show mulberry-bark saa paper drying in the sun and traditional textile weaving in a village setting along the river.

Ban Xang Khong and neighbouring Ban Xieng Lek are known for posa or saa paper made from mulberry bark and for handwoven textiles. The useful part of the visit is seeing those materials in process: paper sheets drying outside, fibres becoming decorative paper and looms turning thread into finished cloth.
