THE RIDE

Use the bridge as the hinge of the day

Don Det has riverside paths and a central track through rice fields; cross the old railway bridge and Don Khon opens the day farther south. From the bridge, Li Phi is roughly 1.5–2 km away, while longer tracks continue toward the beach and old landing-pier area. Pick two or three stops rather than turning the bicycle into a checklist.

QUESTIONS BEFORE GOING

Cycle Don Det & Don Khon, without the guesswork

Five things worth clearing up before you go.

Where can I rent a bicycle on Don Det?

Bicycle rentals are common around central Don Det and at guesthouses. Current local information quotes roughly US$1.50 per day for a basic bike, but check the current rate when you rent.

Is Don Det and Don Khon cycling difficult?

The islands are mostly flat and distances are short, so the ride is easy for most travellers. The main nuisance is bike condition, heat and rough or muddy sections after rain rather than steep climbing.

How long does it take to cycle from Don Det to Don Khon?

Current local guidance puts central Don Det to the old railway bridge at roughly 3 km, around twenty minutes without stops. Once across, Don Khon has several short branches toward waterfalls, villages and the southern end of the island.

Do I need a mountain bike?

Not necessarily. A basic bicycle works for the main flat routes in dry conditions. If the tracks are wet, muddy or badly rutted, a better-condition bike matters more than the number of gears.

Can I cycle after dark?

It is better not to. Parts of Don Det and Don Khon are poorly lit, and local guidance specifically warns against riding far at night without a light. Plan to return before dark or carry a proper front light.
